I had the best time putting this window display up over the weekend! We traveled down to York, NE on Saturday morning and got it all installed under 3 hours. We had several people stop by who noticed all the commotion that wasn’t usually happening in that vacant store. It was really fun to get to meet some of the locals and get to hear all the fun stories they had about the building and stores that have been in that particular spot. This store has been vacant for years and the idea of this project is to get interest from locals or entrepreneurs to notice the window and get them to invest money and open their own business.
The concept behind this window was all based on vintage books-one of my favorite things. I got all the books for under $20 thanks to my favorite thrift store in Bellevue, New Life Thrift. The rest of the materials were donations from the community, which was GREATLY appreciated. So all in all, this display was very cheap, but not cheap looking! I put in the sign “START YOUR OWN STORY HERE” just to tie in the themes and so people know the store is for sale and making a window look good is simple and cost effective. I wanted people driving by to first notice the color of the books. That store has been vacant for so long that I’m sure any color in there is a surprise. I wanted to make the window warm and inviting, like someone’s living room. We originally were going to cover the wood paneling back drop but honestly, I think it keeps the character of the building and matches the old, vintage feel.
This was such an awesome time and I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures. If you want to see it in person, just head down to York. But hurry! It hopefully won’t be up for very long as we want to fill that vacant spot as soon as possible :)
